Strengthening Lithuania’s image as an innovative, space and laser technology state

9 September 2026 - 5 March 2027

Problem

As Lithuania celebrates 60 years of laser physics expertise, the country faces a critical paradox: while Lithuanian photonics power 96 of the top 100 global universities, NASA and CERN, this world-class leadership remains largely invisible outside expert circles.

The problem: Lithuania has strong, verifiable stories but the world does not yet connect them with the country. According to target market research tracked by the Chancellery of the Government under the Lithuania Co-create framework, international public awareness remains under 30%, with no product group or commercial sector strongly associated with the country among the general foreign public. A comparable 2025 repeated study in Germany showed little change and found out that 82% of Germans aware of Lithuania could not name a Lithuanian-origin product, good or service.

Even if Lithuania is doing impressive things. Our labs, for example, are already developing photonics and optical sensors for deep-space and Mars exploration. We must tell these success stories, to claim our place on the global space-tech stage. Without raising international awareness and strengthening the image as an innovative, high-tech nation, Lithuania risks leaving capital, tech talents and technological exports behind.

Goal

Strengthen Lithuania’s image as an innovative, high-tech nation by creating an initiative that can attract international attention and generate visibility.
